CONSULTING APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

START Marketing’s apprenticeship program is for select, qualified candidates, which will allow you earn while you learn. The program is not full time, as we cannot dedicate our resources to full-time learning, nor involve apprentices with our existing accounts. However, it will provide you with approximately 8 - 10 hours per week, and as a starting point, you will earn 10% - 25% (based on your level of experience, and the nature of the client) of the billings for the client(s) you bring into the business, plus a set hourly or project fee for other services you provide. This will provide you with an estimated $1000 - $3000 per month, per client, depending on the size of the client contract.

In this role you will:

  • Receive our professional consultative sales training program free of charge
  • Bring a qualified prospective client account(s) into the business; initially, one or two would be the most we could accept from a given apprenticing consultant. START Marketing reserves the right to accept or reject prospective clients based on goodness of fit, and we do not accept new prospects that compete with our existing clients.
  • Attend all strategy meetings with those client(s), to learn how to develop excellent business and marketing strategies. You will receive this training directly from Jacqueline Drew, our President & Principal Consultant.

Your qualifications should include:

  • A business degree, preferably majored in marketing
  • 4 years of business experience, including some outside Business-to-Business sales
  • Excellent English skills, both written and verbal
  • Superior interpersonal skills – particularly regarding business etiquette
  • Professional appearance
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of MS Software, including Word, Excel, and Power Point.

As this is a contract position, not an employer/employer arrangement, the following also apply:

  • You must supply your own computer hardware and software, and internet connection.
  • You will supply your own office, if needed, except while in our office consulting directly with clients.
  • You will cover your own selling expenses (for example, if you decide to join a professional association, or take a client to lunch, or parking costs.) We will provide business cards with the title “Apprenticing Consultant.” Once you are deemed a qualified and capable consultant, a new title and payment arrangement will be negotiated, or you may choose to go “out on your own.”
  • You are not guaranteed a minimum amount of hours worked per week. There will be more or fewer hours depending on the demands of the account(s) on which you will be working.
  • If you have other services (such as writing and design) that you can provide, you will be asked to provide project quotations, and if you have solid skills in this area, you may also receive project work.
  • Your apprenticeship commences when START Marketing Inc. signs a consulting contract with a client you refer to our business, and your share is provided as funds are collected from the client.
  • Meetings are arranged at the convenience of START Marketing and the client(s), and will typically be held Monday to Friday 9:30am – 3:00pm. If you cannot attend a meeting, it will carry on without your attendance. You will receive your commissions regardless of whether or not you attend the meetings. Attending the meetings is purely for your own learning benefit. (In fact, you may choose to purely be in a “sales” role, bring in an account, collect your share, and not bother to sit in on the strategy meetings, it is your choice.)
  • We recognize that we will likely be “training our competition” through running such a program, as apprentices can leave at any time they please, but we believe that we will be able to build excellent rapport with our apprentices, and that as long as we are “creating” other good marketing consultants – we are helping the community at large. We would strongly hope that great ongoing relationships will be built where business can be referred back and forth, according to “best fit” and the consultants’ key areas of interest.
